Victorian Christmas Angels

Victorian Christmas angels are one of the biggest gifts that the Victorians brought us to brighten up our own holidays. Victorians loved using frilly angels in decorations. The upper-class Victorian housewife would decorate for every holiday, including Valentine’s Day and especially Christmas. The Victorian Christmas angels would be used used as Christmas tree ornaments, as Christmas tree toppers and in figurines.

Angels were used in Victorian times in many different ways, and you would see them used in furniture and you’ll find angels with harps and veils in many different places in a Victorian home.

In the Victorian era, a concept of “the angel of the house” was widely promulgated, referring to a concept of a woman submitting herself willingly to her marriage partner.

However, not wishing to delve into antiquated ideas of male-female relations, which would be poorly received in the modern era, I have decided instead to feature Victorian style artwork pertaining to angels, which, in turn, would be appropriate in Christmas adornments. Hanging ornaments, figurines, and patterns follow:

A Victorian Christmas Wreath will welcome your visitors to your Victorian home

Nothing makes a home look more welcoming and inviting than a beautiful Victorian Christmas wreath. While wreaths were probably used by the Romans to celebrate victory they became part of a deep Christian tradition as well. There were often four candles on the wreath, and it was seen as an Advent wreath: the four candles representing the weeks of Advent and the candle in the middle representing Christ. And although we don’t always know it, wreaths offer much to their pagan roots with the evergreen of the forest representing life. For instance Father Christmas is often shown wearing a wreath.

Here are four Thomas Kinkade Victorian Christmas wreaths. Each Victorian Christmas wreath shows Kinkade’s love of Victorian England: the snow covered city, the horse sleigh’s the magic of Christmas time. All of these wreaths are gorgeous pieces of art, and they all light up. They are quality made, sure to be heirlooms in your family.
